Too early to say. If history is of any significance Google was not the first to search, Ads in general, gmail, or other services. They redefined Ads as we knew it with their context sensitive Ads and the AdWords auctioning system.
I was at CTIA at Nokia booth. They are also working on a Ad delivery to mobile but haven’t yet figured out how to make the Ads relevant to the user. I think if anyone who comes up with the scheme that increases conversion through Mobile Ads and provides a way to measure the conversion rates will win, whether they are second or third to enter.
gPhone platform is a strategic move (i know it is an overused term). It sets the tone for what are possible later and stands to open up new ways to monetize mobile content.
I am not taking anything away from Yahoo but I am not writing off Google.
[...] a previous post here at DMEC, Matt talked about Yahoo moving ahead of others in mobile advertising. I remembered some data on web site access from Smart phones. Shown below is the graph with datafrom M:Metrics. What is a Smart Phone is not well defined and the number of phones that can be qualified Smart Phones is not clear. The data shows Google at the top, with almost twice that of theplace player, Yahoo. With so much lead in website usage, it is conceivable that Google won’t yield its lead in mobile advertising to others. Another caveat is, this data from M:Metrics is atsix monthsold. [...]
