About
We love media. All of our members can’t get enough of it. News, movies, television, music, videogames–we love it all. We also love technology, especially when it helps us enjoy our media and, with the advent of the web, share it with our friends.
The digital media field is constantly evolving and represents a tremendous business opportunity to impact how we interact and engage with those around us. As a result, we want our careers to revolve around digital media and entertainment and have created a club to connect people with similar interests.
What We Want to Do
Create a community for people to learn and get involved with the digital media and entertainment industry.
How We’ll Do It
We will accomplish our mission by providing opportunities for members to (1) get smart about the challenges and opportunities facing digital media, (2) connect and interact with professionals and alumni in the field, and (3) develop contacts to help land summer internships and full-time positions. These include:
>Play Digital Media Conference: Each Fall, we put on the largest student-run conference on campus, bringing together over 500 creative professionals, industry leaders, and academics to discuss the trends and challenges that face the digital media industry. Driven by Berkeley’s legacy of creativity and its role as a leader of digital media technology, >play offers the opportunity for companies to connect with industry professionals and Berkeley students from the Haas School of Business, the College of Engineering, and the School of Information. Alumni Events: From social mixers to alumni speakers, DMEC provides students an opportunity to network and learn from alumni working at the most creative and influential companies in the digital media and entertainment industries.
Speaker Series: Each fall, DMEC organizes thought-provoking speakers from top companies and prominent brands in digital media and entertainment. Past speakers have included representatives from Facebook, Apple, Electronic Arts, Google, Microsoft, Yahoo!, Mozilla, LucasArts, and more.
Career Treks: Treks offer students invaluable experiences by giving students the chance to meet with executives and recruiters while going “behind the scenes” of leading companies. Past destinations have included Los Angeles, New York City, Seattle, and numerous trips around the Silicon Valley.
Newsletters: The digital media and entertainment field is constantly changing and evolving. While this keeps things interesting, it also makes it hard to keep up with what’s going on. DMEC does the heavy lifting to provide members updates on conferences, upcoming events, and recent events in an easy-to-read format.
Industry Experts: Members with a passion for a specific industry have the opportunity to contribute to the community by facilitating discussion of current trends, organizing luncheons, and providing their insight on the club blog.
